Four teams have once again signed up to contest the 40-over competition this year, with Golf Club, Stallions, Colts and the Vic Vikings all set to take to the new-look field at Ron Harborne Oval on Saturday.
“With the new facilities, the picket fence and new turf wicket, we’re all very excited for the start of the season,” Moree and Disrict Cricket Association president Glen Holland said.
During the school holidays a brand new picket fence was installed around the number one cricket field, which had earlier received a new turf wicket.
With the new facilities ... we’re all very excited for the start of the season.
- Glen Holland, Moree and District Cricket Association president
About 40 to 50 players will compete in the upcoming 40-over competition, which will run until Christmas, before the more popular 20/20 competition begins in the new year.
“The 40-over competition is always smaller because of the heat,” Holland said.
“We start the 40 off because we have representative duties, which are played over 50 overs, so the players can get used to it.”
At the end of the season, teams one and two will play off in the A-division grand final, while teams in third and fourth place will contest the B-division grand final.
Holland said more players are welcomed and anyone new to town who loves the sport is especially encouraged to join.
“Anyone interested can come on down or speak to Sophie at Agri-Ware,” he said.
“Otherwise if the know someone locally, give the captains a call.”
At this stage the club is working on a 1pm start this Saturday, however that will be confirmed following the captains meeting this week.
Draw for Saturday, October 14:
- Field 1 – Stallions vs Colts
- Field 2 – Vic Vikings vs Golf Club
