Students from the centre, as part of learning about women in sport, held a special celebration for the history-making side to wish them good luck in the Group 19 grand final on Saturday.
As the first league tag team to ever make the grand final for the Moree Boomerangs Club, the ladies gathered with students, friends and family to celebrate their successful season.
Coach Lorilie Haines has trained her side four out of five days in preparation for Saturday’s game against the Glen Innes Magpies.
“We’ve done some extra training around our kicking game which I am confident the girls will put to game tomorrow but we really didn’t change a lot; I don’t believe in changing too much,” she said.
Haines was happy with the way the girls had been training and said she had full confidence in them.
“I’m pretty sure we’ll come away with a win tomorrow,” she said with a proud smile.
The side started off their season with three or four straight wins, however were a little “shook” half way through, before finding their feet towards the finals.
Haines said her co-facilitation of an local Aboriginal Women’s Group assisted her coaching as she put some of the same focus points towards the girls, particularly with communication.
“It has made our bond stronger and made us come together more as a family. We’ve also just been feeding the group positive energy all the time which has made a huge difference,” she said.
The 2017 Moree Boomerangs Ladies League Tag team have made a statement to the club and community that they are capable of playing the sport, quite successfully.
“Our girls are capable of leadership roles, we are part of this club and we are part of this town,” she said.
