Shontana Foster, Lucy Beness and Thomas Marchant were chosen from 12 applicants to receive the $1,000 scholarship this year.
The Ella Bella Memorial Scholarships program has been running since 2013 and aims to help rural students in years seven to 10 with schooling costs and to achieve their goals.
Students had to hand write a one-page letter outlining what they would like to learn as well as an example of when they have set a goal and achieved it.
Shontana and Thomas are interested in pursuing a medical career in the future, while Lucy’s field of interest is to make the world a better place.
Moree Lions Club work in partnership on the program to mentor the successful scholarship recipients throughout the year.
The scholars will receive $250 each term this year for their schooling and will have the opportunity of vocational metoring, usually from within the local community, in their field of interest.
Sam Penfold, past scholar who is sitting his HSC this year was able to use the scholarship money to attend a program at the University of Technology Sydney to pursue his dream career as a forensic anthropologist.
The three new scholarship recipients join six ongoing scholars for this year including Marina Shelton whose field of interest is radiography, Jasmine McMillan who is looking into a career in catering, Grace Carter who is interested in medicine, Mitchell Houldcroft who wishes to pursue agriculture, Kiahara Abrahamsen who is tossing up careers in teaching or the police force, and Alexandra Beatty who wants to become a midwife.
