Police are investigating the possible murder of 63-year-old Australian man Stephen James Richardson who was found dead in a villa in the seaside Bali precinct of Sanur.

Mr Richardson, who lived alone in a villa in Sanur in Jalan Danau Poso, was found naked on a mattress covered in blood from open wounds to the back of his head and upper body.
The head of Sanglah morgue Dr Dudut said an autopsy was yet to be conducted but he had most likely died from the wound in his head because his skull was broken.
He said several wounds from sharp and blunt objects on his arms and head indicated there had been some kind of struggle.
"What's obvious is it is not suicide," Dr Dudut said.
Mr Richardson's friend, Garry Croker, discovered Mr Richardson's body on Monday afternoon after becoming concerned when he hadn't heard from him for a couple of days.
"We knew he had had a heart attack (in the past) so we started looking for him," Mr Croker said.
When the owner of the villa didn't have a key, Mr Croker jumped the fence and discovered Mr Richardson's bloodied body.
"I didn't want to see that," Mr Croker said.
Mr Richardson had no enemies of whom he was aware.
"He's a bloke who helps a lot of people, he was a generous man."
Mr Croker said Mr Richardson had a house in Darwin but had lived in Bali on and off for about seven years.
His partner had gone to work in Darwin about a month ago.
Denpasar Police Chief Hadi Purnomo said there were oddities in the case, including the fact that the main door was bolted from the outside.
"That had to have been done by another person," he said. "It's not possible for the victim to have bolted it himself. That's odd."
The gate had also been bolted.
Mr Hadi said there was broken mirror glass in the room in which Mr Richardson was found, which may have caused his injuries.
Twelve witnesses have now been interviewed by police.
Mr Hadi said Mr Richardson's scooter had been found at a nearby bar and there was no sign of a robbery, with his watch, valuables and phone all at the scene.
About 10 empty bottles of Bintang beer were on the porch.
Police were trying to access Mr Richardson's phone, which was PIN protected.
The Richardson family said in a statement that until the Indonesian police concluded their investigation they did not wish to comment.
"We are greatly saddened by this event and ask the media to please respect our privacy and allow us to grieve in private," the statement said.
One of the witnesses interviewed by police was Made Jana, a security guard stationed across the street from Mr Richardson's villa. He said he had last seen the victim and another foreigner on Saturday night.
"They were across the street, entering the house. I didn't notice what they were doing. I didn't see them again till my shift over the next morning 7am."
Mr Hadi said police would coordinate with the Australian Consulate including the AFP. "We have conveyed to the AFP that there is an incident involving an Australian citizen," he said.
