With media personality Tony Squires lined up as the special guest for Friday’s charity dinner, the third annual Chopper Cup weekend is expected to be the best yet.
Squires is one of Australia’s most popular media personalities and is well-known for roles such as host of Fox Sports’ Back Page Live, presenter of a range of weekly shows on Triple M radio and a journalist for the Sydney Morning Herald.
Moree Race Club is thrilled to have secured Squires as the special guest for this year’s charity event.
“Tony will be great,” secretary Michelle Gobbert said.
“I think he will be a bit of a drawcard for a lot of the guys.”
The charity dinner and auction will be held at Moree Racecourse on Friday, February 17 at 6.30pm.
Tickets are $130 per person or $1200 for a table of 10 which includes welcome drinks on arrival and a three course meal catered by Relish Catering.
The highlight of the dinner will be the auction, with all proceeds going to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.
There are some fantastic auction items up for grabs including a dinner on the deck for 10 people at Moree Racecourse, a shuttle of roundup, a Tasmanian golf package, a Gold Coast accommodation package, jockey silks from TJ Smith, and a package to day one of The Championships at Royal Randwick, which includes accommodation, airfares and a stable tour with Gai Waterhouse.
There will also be a number of other smaller auction items, as well as raffles and lucky door prizes.
Last year’s event raised $27,000 for the Westpac Helicopter and Moree Race Club would love to top that this year.
“It’s a nice charity to be able to support,” Mrs Gobbert said.
“It’s a service that you hope you never use but there’s certainly lots of people around who have had to use it.”
The dinner will be held in a fully air-conditioned marquee which will then be used as the Chopper Club marquee the following day (Saturday, February 18) for the charity race day.
Tickets for the Chopper Club marquee are $85 per person which includes gate and marquee entry, a race book, a meal catered by Relish Catering, a full bar service and five drink vouchers.
Gates open at 12pm with the five-race program to get underway at approximately 2pm. Entry is $10.
The Chopper Cup Calcutta will be held just prior to the feature race – the 1400m benchmark 65 Chopper Cup.
There are $2,000 worth of prizes up for grabs in five Fashions on the Field categories, sponsored by Beauty Matters.
There will also be bookies on-course and a courtesy bus to and from the races.
Tickets for the dinner and Chopper Club marquee can be purchased online at www.tryBooking.com.
