Having been living and training in Sydney on and off for the past 12 months, Hammond will return to Moree to train ahead of a Commonwealth title bout in July. Trainer and mentor, Danny Cheetham said Hammond will use the time to mentally prepare for his next big challenge.
“The wife and I have basically raised him since he was a 14-year-old boy. I think he’ll move back and stay here as long as he can. He’s a country boy who loves training and boxing out of the Moree academy,” Danny said.
Having dedicated over two decades to boxing in the area, Danny was ready to call it quits.
“I was planning to retire and then Jack [Perin] came in and now Cameron is coming back.
“We’d do anything for him, he’s like a son to my wife and I,” Danny said. “I’ll be back in the game for as long as he needs me.”
No doubt it will be his toughest fight.

Danny will work with boxing promoter Ricky Hatton to try and line up a warm-up tie ahead of the title fight.
“We’re trying to organise an eight or 10 rounder either here in Australia or over in England.
“It’s been five months since Cameron’s last fight.”
It’s all in preparation for Hammond’s contest with London-based Commonwealth welterweight champion Bradley Skeete.
The WBO European welterweight winner and current Commonwealth champ is currently 23 wins and one loss into his professional career.
“It’s the biggest step up Cameron has had to make. No doubt it will be his toughest fight,” Danny said.
“He’ll have to be rock hard and at his best to win this one.”
Should he win, Hammond’s next challenge is laid out for him.
“He’d be in striking distance for a shot at the world title,” Danny said.
