The 40-year-old man, formerly of Tenterfield, moved to Moree around 20 years ago to raised five children with his partner, the late Yvonne Pearl French until she passed away in May 2013.
More than a week ago, Mr Duroux tried breaking up a fight outside the Coolangatta Hotel, and in the process was struck once in the head. He had to be resuscitated after going into cardiac arrest.
Emergency services rushed Mr Duroux to Gold Coast University Hospital where he was put on life-support and visited regularly by family and even boxing champion, Anthony Mundine.
His attacker, 18-year-old Tristan Heather, was originally charged with grievously bodily harm, but according to police his charges will now upgrade to unlawful striking causing death.
The New Zealand teenage was celebrating his 18th birthday in Australia as the incident occurred.
Heather faced Southport Magistrates Court.
Mr Duroux was surrounded by love during his final moments, and was a beloved son, uncle, nephew, father and grandfather.
His family members Trevor and Mikarla told the Moree Champion his memory is survived by six children, two grandsons, one granddaughter and two grandchildren on the way.
A Go Fund Me campaign has been set up on behalf of Trevor and his family members in order to help raise funds for any medical bills and/or expenses.
“Please people stop the violence; it has only taken one hit for this loving caring man’s life to be so suddenly paused,” the page reads.
More than 400 people have shared the Go Fund Me page and have started making donations.
