Member for Barwon, Kevin Humphries, said $20 million was allocated for capital works, including the re-development of Moree East Public School.
Principal, Murial Kelly, said the re-development would not only benefit the students at Moree East Primary School, but also the associated parents and residents.
“We will be working with inter-agencies for family referrals and build relationships with local community services and through the school, residents will be able to access these when needed,” she said.
Mr Humphries believed every building except the hall and canteen would undergo some form of re-development at Moree East.
“This will be one of the three developments happening that will revamp south Moree. Burt Jovanovich received almost $2 million to upgrade the grounds and the government committed $15 million to the final stage of the bypass,” Mr Humphries said.
Meanwhile, other capital works have begun at Boomi Public School which has been a joint fund, with the government matching dollar for dollar with the school to build a covered walkway.
Moree Public School has received a covered walkway with an outdoor learning area and a library upgrade is on the way, while Moree Secondary College’s Albert Street campus is to receive a phone system upgrade.
“This is great news for the schools involved and I’m looking forward to securing even further funding upgrades in future budgets now that our state economy is back on track,” Mr Humphries said.
