The financial relief has come about following a joint representation to Minister for Hospitality, George Souris, from Clubs NSW and the Australian Hotels Association (AHA) to give consideration to their members adversely impacted by the devastating floods earlier this year.
State Member for Barwon Kevin Humphries is encouraging clubs and pubs in the electorate to take advantage of the dispensation, which has been signed off by the Premier and Treasurer.
“These establishments, which are very important to the region, are already doing it tough and the recent floods have made things even tougher,” Mr Humphries said.
Assistance is available through the Office of State Revenue for clubs and hotels affected by flooding in declared natural disaster areas to assist their cash flows.
Hotels and clubs can contact the Office of State Revenue on (02) 9689 8222 for further advice on the financial options available including deferral of the payment of tax. Assistance will be provided until the end of 2012.
Minister for Hospitality, George Souris, also announced the extension of a separate scheme which allows clubs and pubs suffering financial hardship because of the indoor smoking ban to defer payment of their gaming machine tax.
“The scheme allows any hotel or club which has experienced a downturn in gaming machine revenue of 15 per cent or greater to pay their quarterly gaming machine tax in three equal installments without being charged interest for late payment,” Mr Souris said.
“Due to the important role hotels and clubs play in servicing their communities, the scheme has been extended for a further 12 months. Venues can make an application by contacting the Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing on 02 9995 0468 or cms-bu@olgr.nsw.gov.au
“Licensed venues, particularly those in regional areas, are hubs of the community and they offer a lifeline and valuable facilities and services in times of dire need.
“In hard economic times when cash flows are already slow and compounded by the impact of floods, clubs and hotels deserve assistance to ensure the survival of these valuable community assets.”
