If you tuned into Weekend Sunrise on Sunday morning, you would have seen the show getting a peek at many iconic spots in Berrima. Perhaps you were wandering through the historic village yourself and saw the crew and local businesses live and in action. It comes after Berrima was crowned the winner of the NSW Top Tourism Town Awards (population less than 5000) last week. The morning program made their first pit-stop to the Berrima Vault House where they did their first live-cross at 7.35am. Host James Tobin was treated to a Virgin Mary with, a local hot sauce made by head bartender Joe Collins. Mr Tobin was also served some food from the restaurant, and wandered through and admired the intimate and private dining area, which was a former jail cell. Co-owner Si Philby said that despite the early start, it was a "fun" experience. Read more: "The story and the way they captured the building was really well done," he said. Mr Tobin and the crew then made their way down the Old Hume Highway to Schmokin' for their next broadcast after 8am. The host hopped on an e-Bike with Schmokin' owner Martyn Poytress alongside some regular customers, who came along to support the local business in the broadcast. Mr Poytress said riders travelled from the Highlands, Sydney and Nowra for the ride. "For Berrima, it showed nothing but positivity," Mr Poytress said. Mr Poytress and Mr Tobin rode their e-Bikes to Gumnut Patisserie for the third stop in the town. The patisserie is one of the many stops in the region for Pie Time, and upcoming pastry chef Josh Nickl's moreish banoffee and salted caramel pies were on display for the nation to see. Mr Nickl also featured in the live cross and showcased the classic lemon meringue pies and sweet pastries, along with classic savoury pies. Mr Tobin treated himself to their famous fruit tart. "It was a really great promotion for Pie Time and Berrima as a town," Mr Nickl's brother, and work colleague Joshua Nickl said. Mr Tobin, after all the live-crosses, said that it is "never too early for a pie." "I have eaten my way through Berrima this morning," he added. Weekend Sunrise finished off their tasty pies and headed a minute down the road to The Surveyor General Inn for the final stop. Pub regular Bob Rodgers, who is also known at the establishment as the "village muso" strummed some tunes before Mr Tobin took to a bar stool to chat with locals about what they love about the region. "It was great for the town to win the Top Tourism Town Award, and a great thrill and has given Berrima a real buzz for local businesses," said publican Peter Durney. "We've had some incredible characters this morning," Mr Tobin added after all of the live-crosses. "We've been really warmly welcomed, and everyone seemed willing to get up nice and early to come and hang out."
