The driver of a white Nissan patrol was travelling south bound on the highway at 2pm on Tuesday when he allegedly tried to overtake another vehicle and collided with a truck travelling in the same direction. The driver was ejected from his seat and ambulance services took him and his passenger to Moree Hospital.
A Westpac Rescue Helicopter airlifted the man to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle, where he is in a stable but serious condition.
The police are still investigating the accident and are calling witnesses or anyone with footage from the accident to come forth.
