“Throughout the year, golfers travel to places around the region to play at the golf club’s open day. This time around it’s Moree’s turn to host the open day,” Moree Veterans Golf Club secretary John Atkins said.
Golfers came from places such as Goondiwindi, Inverell and Warialda to compete in the 18 hole Stable Ford round.

Competition aside, the day is also a chance to honour deceased veteran golfers.
In the past, the golf club held memorial days that were named after a deceased veteran golfer. Today, the focus shifted to the wider group of veteran golfers.
“The club is affiliated with NSW Veterans Golfers. We have a strong group of golfers in Moree. Usually there are about 35 to 40 veteran members who play a round of golf every Thursday,” Mr Atkins said.
Tee off was at 10am and presentations for the male and female golf winners are slated for 4pm today. A barbecue will also be fired up for lunch.
