In Stallions match against Colts on Saturday, November 4, Holland scored an impressive 160 runs – a personal best for the Moree cricketer.
The feat is even more impressive considering Holland was an opening bowler until this time last year when he hurt his back.
“I’ve been trying to convert from bowling to batting and I was lucky last weekend,” Holland said.
“It’s the best I’ve ever batted.
“They say to play straight and not play across the line, so I just put my head down to see what I could do.”
Holland’s 160 runs, with the help of a successful partnership with Alf Newman (56), saw Stallions reach 300 at the fall of their last wicket in the one-sided affair against Colts, who were rolled for 87.
The best of the Colts bowlers were Jack Montgomery 3/57 and Chris Heterick 3/71.
Jack Montgomery top scored for Colts with 31, while Stallions bowlers Beau McMahon 4/15, Alexander Cosh 2/17, Jack Baker 2/20 and Alf Newman 2/3 shared the wickets.
The other game of the round was a close one, with Vic Vikings 9/220 defeating Golf Club who were all out for 210.
“Both teams scored over 200 runs on the new turf pitch, which is a big effort for players who are used to playing on synthetic,” Holland said.
Adam Annis Brown (46), Nick Marshall (41) and Wyatt Roberts (37 not out) top scored for the Vic Vikings, while the best bowlers for Golf Club were Matt O’Donnell who took 2/22, Matt Lather 2/23, Chris Rowden 2/35 and Jordan Norther 2/56.
Matt Lather (48) and Matt O'Donnell (47) got the runs for Golf Club and Vikings wickets went to Wyatt Roberts 3/25 and Stephen Wallis 2/56.
In Saturday’s games, Colts 5/83 defeated Golf Club who were all out for 82, while the Vic Vikings saw another close game, this time against the Stallions who scored 9/193 to beat the Vikings who were all out for 192.
This Saturday, November 18 will see the Colts take on Vic Vikings on turf and Golf Club match up against Stallions on Field 1.
The first round of the MA Connolly Cup will be held on Sunday as Moree host Gunnedah for the first rep game on the new turf wicket.
