The touring exhibition explores ideas around money, economic systems, perceived value and the aesthetics of currency, and features historical objects alongside contemporary art to create a fascinating look into our economic system to reveal money’s enigmatic side.
Moree Plains Gallery curator Hannah Williamson said those who attended the opening on Friday (October 20) were impressed with the range of archival objects and contemporary work on display.
“It was really good, we were really happy with the turnout; we had about 40 people come along which is a lot more than we expected with harvest and the weather,” she said.
“We had a really positive response to the exhibition, particularly to the artefacts which are on loan from the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences and the Hawkesbury Regional Gallery.”
Creative Accounting is curated by Holly Williams and has been touring since 2016, courtesy of Museums and Galleries of NSW.
Moree Plains Gallery is the last venue on the tour, with the exhibition to run until Saturday, December 2.
Ms Williamson encourages people to come along and view Creative Accounting, which she said is something a bit different for the gallery.
“It’s a different way of looking at money with the combination of museum objects and contemporary artworks,” she said.
“Economic systems and value systems are challenged but reinforced by the artefacts.”
The exhibition is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 5pm, and Saturdays from 10am to 1pm.
