All these competitions are designed to see who was going to be the best of the best.
Beautiful spring weather and a splendid playing surface met the competitors over many weekends, all up for the challenge for some exciting lawn bowls.
Ever since Sir Francis Drake so famously played lawn bowls in southern England proclaiming “that we still have time to finish this match” before leading the British Navy in the defeat of the Spanish armada, lawn bowlers across the globe strive for bowling supremacy.
All bowlers want to win each competition they enter, challenge themselves and the conditions against the best, to become the best.
The members of the Moree Men’s Bowls Club is no different.
All members regardless of their years of experience and ability also want to get better and set themselves for any contest.
David Milgate from Moree has played lawn bowls since his illustrious cricket and football career ended and has become one of the stalwarts of the club.
Many new bowlers like playing against him as he always seems to get the best out of his competitors. In turn that makes the club stronger!
David played in the fours, triples, pairs and singles events this year taking home all the silverware which eventually saw him take out the most prestigious of awards that any Moree bowler can strive for - the Players Plate.
This is awarded to the player who excels not just on one weekend but over the whole season.
“It was great to see David get this recognition from his club mates. He certainly deserves it, he has been the most consistent and in top form for a long time,” president Wayne Tighe said.
“He has been playing against the top flight players for some years now and though he always challenged, he never quite got over the line.”
On accepting the accolades from his club mates David noted that the Commonwealth games is on soon and commented “Today Moree, tomorrow a Gold Medal”.
David Milgate is a committed and popular member of the Moree Services Men’s bowls club and nobody left after the presentation ceremony, celebrating well into the evening.
All players look resplendent in their new playing shirts. This would not have been possible without the support of the Moree Services Club and our major shirt sponsors Campbell’s Fuel Services and Dennis Sayer Handyman Services.
They really did stand out in their noticeable shirts with their BP logo and royal blue trousers. Nagama!
