The announcement was made this week, in conjunction with Mental Health Month and will offer more support throughout the community.
The group will run in conjunction with the St Vincent De Paul Society and local community member Linda Woodbridge, who has vast experience in the drug support and not-for-profit sectors.
The group is available for carers requiring specialised support when it comes to helping people with a mental health or drug and alcohol issue.
Flourish Australia Moree manager Claire Gillan said the group was a step forward for the Moree community.
“We’re utilising as many resources as possible to build up support for those who look after people with mental health issues.
“Caring for people with mental health issues can present varying challenges, so the more support that’s made available at the community level the better.
“It can be a difficult and lonely road for carers in the mental health support space, be they professionals, relatives or friends of those on a recovery journey.
“Sometimes even the most basic information and guidance can make an enormous difference,” Ms Gillan said.
The group will meet every second month starting on Wednesday, October 18 from 4.30pm until 6pm.
The meetings will be held at “the hub” located in the Flourish Australia Moree office, unit 6/25 Auburn St Moree.
Anyone interested in attending should call the Flourish Australia Moree office on (02) 9393 9480 for further information.
Flourish Australia is a not-for-profit organisation providing support programs, employment, accommodation and hope for more than 5,000 people with mental health issues in New South Wales and Queensland.
Advocating community-based assistance, it is a leading mental health support provider that has been in operation for 60 years.
The Moree headquarters launched in September 2015.
