Now in its seventh year, the art prize and exhibition attracted a record number of entries from all over the region going as far west as Broken Hill and across to Moree.
This popular exhibition and art prize is all about celebrating the colour, creativity and spirit of communities across the Far West.
There were a total of 140 artworks entered across the four categories of Open Art (painting, etching, sketching, pastel), Photography, Ceramics and Sculpture, all exploring the theme of ‘Legends and Landscapes’. After completing the pre-selection process, the number of entries successful for exhibition is 65.
Prizes this year are cash and exhibition packages, as a result of generous local sponsorship and newly established partnerships with metro galleries. Prizes will be awarded across the four categories as well as most Outstanding Indigenous Artist and People’s Choice.
“The Outback Archies is important because it celebrates our regional artists, both emerging and established and offers them a chance to exhibit in a high profile art show,” Outback Archies communications officer Eliza Walters said.
“It is the only one of its kind in our whole region. We encourage everyone to come and support local art and artists and check out the exhibition.”
The Outback Archies exhibition is to be held in Coonamble at the Outback Arts Gallery from September 25 to October 27. The opening event will include live music, refreshments and lucky door prizes will be held on Thursday, September 28 from 5.30pm.
“With thanks to our generous partners and sponsors - Maitland Regional Art Gallery, Studio MV, Campbelltown Arts Centre, Kerrie Lowe Gallery, Coonamble Bowling Club, Waterford Ryan Solicitors, Landmark Coonamble, CJ’s Country Kitchen, Coonamble Cellars, and NSW DPI,” Ms Walters said.
“Also thanks to our funding partners, Create NSW and the local councils of Bourke, Coonamble, Cobar, Warren and Walgett.”
