After finishing top of the table in their division with 26 points, the ladies prepared for the final round in Tamworth against Narrabri, Quirindi and Glen Innes.
Players Tina Macey, Ange Coy, Annie Horton, Katie McMeniman, Claudia Turner, Hannah Brown, Melissa Everingham, Kathryn Minogue and Lauraine Fechner, and their coaches Amber Brown and Brooke Clark arrived in high spirits.
Just days before Claudia Turner suffered a serious ankle injury, benching her for the finals. However Moree did not let the news effect their determination or set plans for the day.
Their first game was against close rivals Narrabri, who finished the season in second place just six points behind Moree.
The local ladies fought hard, stuck to their simple game plan and won 54-30 securing the first seat in the grand final.
Narrabri then entered the preliminary final against Quirindi and won 38-23 advancing them in the division two grand final.
At 12.30pm Moree and Narrabri took the court to decide who would be crowned division two champions for 2017 and at the end of the first quarter Moree was leading 11-8.
Moree advanced greatly in the second quarter, with more possession of the ball, they secured a healthy seven-point lead heading into half time.
At the end of the third quarter Moree were sitting pretty on 33-20 and went on to finish the game with a 16-point win, 46-30.
The Northern Inland Regional League presentation was held shortly after each division played their grand final.
Moree’s players, coaches and supporters cheered with pride as the ladies were presented their winning trophy.
Moree’s journey to the grand final was near perfect, especially in the first round at Inverell where they won every single game.
Tamworth hosted the competition’s second round where Moree suffered their one and only loss for the competition against Narrabri in the first game of the day.
The final round, before the finals, was held in Gunnedah. Moree again put on their game faces and in true Moree style, won every game on the day.
Coach Brooke Clark was extremely proud of the local team.
“As coaches myself and Amber Brown could not be more happy for the girls to finish on top of the table,” she said.
The regional league competition consisted of teams from Moree, Inverell, Narrabri, Glen Innes, Armidale and Quirindi.
