Friday, August 18 marked Vietnam Veterans Day and Moree RSL sub-branch held a small service at Max Wales Memorial Park to remember those who served.
The service also commemorated Victory in the Pacific (VP) Day, which falls on August 15, marking the surrender of Japan during World War II in 1945.
“We are assembled here today to commemorate two events that occurred 21 years apart – they are Victory in the Pacific Day and Vietnam Day,” Vietnam veteran John Williams said.
“Not only the end of World War II, but also the sacrifice demonstrated by the young men and women who fought in another place, Vietnam.
“On this day we remember their sacrifice and I hope we never forget the example set by them.
“These sons and daughters of Anzacs who came forward without question, accepted gladly and discharged fully, their responsibilities during World War II and the Vietnam conflicts, should always be remembered with compassion and pride.”
