A push to change the perception of Moree and bring more people to town, as well as a focus on supporting businesses from all sectors in the district are just some of the plans on the horizon for the Moree Chamber of Commerce as it looks ahead to the future.

Moree Chamber of Commerce has been in a period of re-establishment over the past six months, and now the committee would like to see some fresh faces come on board at next week’s Annual General Meeting.
In particular, people from the agricultural sector, as well as tradies and contractors are encouraged to step up and join.
“It’s not a main street committee,” current president Murray Hartin said.
“We want it to be a true representation of all businesses around Moree and district and would like as many people as possible to come on board.”
Mr Hartin believes once the Chamber is strong again, they can start working with Moree Plains Shire Council and Tourism Moree to make positive changes, including encouraging more people to move to town.
One of the biggest plans on their agenda is to create an online community notice board for jobs available in town, which features beautiful photos showcasing Moree and the many positive community events happening throughout the year, to encourage people to move here.
“Word is there’s up to 100 good jobs in Moree at any one time,” Mr Hartin said.
“When you start filling those jobs, you get families move here and kids enrolling in the schools.
“It’s about changing the perception of Moree.
“People can come to Moree with certain ideas and then they move here and think ‘this is actually pretty good’.”
The Chamber is also looking at bringing back business awards, as well as ways to encourage people to shop in Moree, rather than go out of town.
“If we can start getting big ticket items in town, it reinvigorates it,” Mr Hartin said.
In line with keeping business in Moree, the Chamber and council are planning to hold an information evening for tradies and contractors to help them understand the tendoring process to encourage more locals to put in for tender jobs and keep money in town.
All executive positions will become vacant at the AGM, to be held at Moree Plains Shire Council’s committee room at 5.30pm on Tuesday, August 29.
Everyone is invited to come along, you just need to be a financial member of the chamber.
Membership is $20 and can be paid on the night.
