Going head to head in all four grade, the Boars and Boomerangs both showed how much talent Moree has to offer.
Described at the backbone of the Moree Boomerangs club, their reserve grade side was sitting top of the ladder heading into Sunday.
However, the Boars’ reserves, trailing in third, did not fall to intimidation and were the first to score in the second last game of the day.
The Rangs reserves ended up six points in front with minutes to go when the Boars regathered with a successful try and conversion to even up the score 32-all.
However, in all other games the Moree Boomerangs dominated.
Rangs first grade coach Chris Binge was happy with their win in first grade, smashing the Boars 54-12.
“In the first 15-20 minutes the Boars were putting it to our guys and they scored the first try but we dug deeper and in the second half showed some really eye catching performances.”
He said Kyle Saunders had consistently performed at the top of his game for the past six weeks, and Josh Walker’s debut in first grade was stellar.
“Josh scored the best two tries I’ve seen in a long time. He brought the crowd to their feet; it was an unbelievable performance.”
Binge gave the Boars’ juniors due credit for putting up a good fight despite their lack of numbers.
“The Boars juniors were leading 12-0 and there was only a two-point difference at half time. Our boys got a talking to at half time and finished the game off really well.
“Led well by Rhys Smith and his younger brother the Rangs juniors won 56-12.”
The Boars’ ladies league tag were also the first try scorers on Sunday and had a stellar first half. The Rangs were playing “catch-up footy” until the second half when they kicked into gear and won 20-12; not without injury.
“Shirley-Swan Junior damaged her ankle and has had to have x-rays.” Binge said from an overall club perspective they had every grade qualify for the semi-finals which was a massive achievement.
