The youngster recently completed his first completely unassisted flight on April 19 at 17:00 hours in a Jabiru J170C.
FN Aviation chief flying instructor Fred Nolan said, to his knowledge, it was the first time the award had been given in Moree.
“Patrick has 12 months to complete his flying,” he said. The Moree Secondary College student was one of 96 to apply, with only 42 scholarships being awarded.
Recreational Aviation Australia (RAA) chief executive Michael Linke congratulated all successful applicants and said he looked forward to hearing about everyone’s progress.
Already, Patrick has completed a perfect circuit in a light cross-wind completely unassisted and completed a smooth landing at the Moree airport. Mr Nolan said cross wind weather conditions could be quite trying for pilots of any experience.
