Gilmore was supported by Ben Mitchell and Carl Frazier, who both kicked four goals, and Matty Hodge, who kicked three.

The final score was 26.16-172 to 4.10-34.

Tamworth blew the Suns away in an eight-goal to none first quarter, and kicked 16 goals to one by halftime to lead 104 to 10.

In the earlier game at No.1 Oval on Saturday, New England beat the Swans 19.16-130 to 3.5-23.

It was a game of two halves, with the Nomads ruthless in the opening two quarters as they booted 12 goals to one to established a 70-point lead at the main break.

But the reigning premiers only scored seven goals for the remainder of the match, while the home side kicked two majors.

On the strength of that, Tamworth coach Paul Kelly said the Swans had “probably” produced their best performance in “three or four years”.

“I’m as happy as you can be with a loss,” he said.

“They’re a good team, so we did have trouble scoring.

“But our forwards held their position and tried their hardest. They did a great job for us on a hard day for them. Our backs were under pressure all day and they really stood up.”

Kelly praised the performances of his son, Tom, Sam Burges and Damien Wendt, who played his 200th game for the club.

With the winless Swans having a surplus of players for two weeks in a row, Kelly said “thing are starting to fall into place”.
