Campaign organisers Anthony Amatto and Trevor Robinson have invited Aboriginal people to the closed meeting at Pius-X Aboriginal Corporation to voice their concerns and suggestions.
During the past four years, the duo have hosted meetings in Dubbo about the ever increasing claims to Aboriginality by people who do not qualify as a known, recognised, accepted identifiable Aboriginal person.
“Since we began; Aboriginal people have travelled from all parts of NSW to add their voice of concern to this growing trend of Aboriginal identity fraud.
“We have had great support at every meeting for our movement to establish a system that can coordinate the issuing of Aboriginal Identity Certificates,” Mr Robinson said.
The meeting will discuss why it’s crucial for Aboriginal people to unify and demand government support and action to expose the “rort and the rot” in Aboriginal Affairs.
“There is a flawed process in claiming Aboriginality. It is the unreliable, in fact non-existent process to conduct background checks of people claiming to be a present day, identifiable Aboriginal person.
“Aboriginal communities have always seen through these people trying to assert, declare or even argue their Aboriginal identity, it’s always been a process that lacks credibility,” he said.
Grassroots Movement hope to leave a proper legacy, a steadfast approach for future Aboriginal children and grandchildren to be confident in a process designed and own by identifiable Aboriginal people and not government.
The meeting is open to local Aboriginal people from 9.30am on August 12. Pius-X Aboriginal Corporation in Anne Street will host the gathering which is estimated to run until 3pm.
