Moree’s motor registry is one of 24 across the state set to be converted into a Service NSW centre with $20 million set aside in the 2017-18 state budget, announced by NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet on Tuesday.

Service NSW centres provide customers easier and more efficient access to government services, allowing people to undertake more than 800 different transactions in the one location including licence renewals, vehicle registrations, birth certificates, Seniors Card applications, housing payments and more.

Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall has been pushing for Moree to receive a Service NSW centre following on from the success of centres in Armidale and Inverell.

“These things are brilliant,” he said.

“The feedback from Armidale and Inverell has been overwhelmingly positive.”

Mr Marshall said the one-stop shops are a vast improvement on the level of service offered at motor registries, as more staff allows for a quicker, more convenient process.

“The ease for the customer to walk into one spot and be able to do two or three things all in one go is fantastic,” he said.

“There’s more staff and they’re open longer hours than current registries.”

Mr Marshall expects the government will find a new site for the Service NSW centre in Moree, as opposed to moving it into the current Roads and Maritime Services building.

He said the Service NSW centre should be up and running in Moree within the next 18 months.
