The annual event raises funds for Variety, the Children’s Charity in the lead-up to the 2017 Belmore to Buffalo Creek Variety bash in August.
Grand entrances were made by this year’s competitors who always go above and beyond to dress in quirky, matching outfits to liven up the golf day.
Eight celebrities and one mystery guest were auctioned off before teams were sent to play a social game of golf in perfect conditions.
Local community members heavily supported the auction, which raised more than $35,000 for Variety alone.
The first to go under the hammer was the mystery guest, going for $5000, revealed as Terry Lamb OAM, an Australian former rugby league footballer and coach.
Anthony Diprose, dressed as Boy George, continued to ramp up the crowd for the following eight celebrities.
John Fitzgerald, a long-time supporter of the charity golf day, was auctioned off for $4500.
Peter Taylor, Mark Taylor, Dean Jones, Phil Emery and Tim Gavin were all auctioned off for $4000 each.
Moree golf pro Matthew McGuire saw his highest bid creep up to $3500 and Darryl Wakelin was auctioned off for $3000.
From August 3 to 13, Moree’s Variety bashers, Lee Estens, Barbara Glennie and Sarah Young, will travel from Belmore to Buffalo Creek to raise more money for the children’s charity.
The trio will drive for 11 days totaling 4891 kilometres in the Moree Variety car.
All costs of the trip come out of their own pockets.
