According to Live Traffic NSW a fuel tanker and car have collided, with reports of a person allegedly trapped.

The highway is closed in both directions and is expected to be closed for most of the day.

Northbound motorists travelling between Moree and Boggabilla can use the Canarvon Highway from Moree to Garah, Boonangar Road to Boomi, the Mungindi-Goondiwindi Bridge Road to Goondiwindi.

Southbound motorists are to use the same route in reverse.

Police Media were awaiting reports from officers at the scene.
