The Roos travelled to Moree on Saturday and proved just too good for the inexperienced Suns, defeating them 10.12-72 to 2.2-14.
Considering only a couple of the twelve players on the Suns side had ever played an AFL game before, Macey said it was a good effort for their first match of the season.
“Most of them are newbies and didn’t know much about the game, so considering that they played really well, putting in 100 per cent,” she said.
“The score doesn’t reflect how well they played. It was a tight game with them making themselves available to the ball.
“They gave some hard hits.

“It’s all a learning curve for them.”
Now that their first game is out of the way, there’s plenty to work on at training over the next few weeks.
Macey said the girls need to work on leading out, tapping the ball out of play and learning that they don’t have to tackle as much.
“Instead of tackling you can just hit the ball out of their hands, but the girls didn’t realise that until towards the end,” she said.
Although the Suns need to work on some of the more technical aspects of the game, Macey said they went in hard and gave it everything they had.
“The tackles that they did make were really good,” she said.
“They got in and made an impact on the bumping and shepherding the opposition.
“They worked really well as a team.”
The Moree Suns seniors also had a loss to the Roos on Saturday, going down 10.14-74 to 20.20-140.
All three grades will travel to Inverell this Saturday to take on the Inverell Saints during an evening match.
Juniors kick off at 2.30pm, followed by the women at 4pm and then seniors at 6pm under the lights.
Inverell women’s side will be tough to beat, considering they defeated the Kangaroos the previous week.
“I’m not expecting to win but I am expecting our girls to give them a run for their money,” Macey said.
