Suns co-coach Angus Croft said everyone’s looking forward to an exciting season ahead.
“I’m pretty confident we’ll go alright,” he said.
“We started getting a few more numbers at training and a few new players, and even with a few players away, we’ll have enough this weekend. It’s looking pretty promising.”
Croft said this Saturday’s game against Inverell will be a bit of a test for the home side and could determine their success this year.
“Inverell in the past have been one of the better sides, so it’ll be interesting,” he said.
“It could dictate how we go for the rest of the season.”
The match will also provide an opportunity for Croft and his co-coach, Andrew Beinke, to assess the skill-level of their players and work out positions.
“I’ll be interesting to see how everyone plays,” Croft said.
“Position-wise it’ll be a bit of an experiment. The team is still coming together but we want to run a few people where they might not normally play and see how they go. It looks like we’re coming together with a pretty strong backline and midfield.”
The seniors match will kick off at 2pm at Taylor Oval with the juniors to play earlier in the day.
The women’s comp is set to get underway in a few weeks and the Suns are still looking for a few more girls to join the side. Women’s training is at 5.30pm Wednesdays.
