In primary, 20 students swam at Homebush in Sydney for Polding trials on April 5 and 6.
Six students were successful in their races and were picked in the Polding team.
Zara Cogan placed third in junior 50-metre breaststroke and Xanthe Cogan placed third in 11 years 50-metre breaststroke.
The junior boys relay, consisting of Angus Manchee, Matthew Coleman, Harry George and Gilbert Tighe, also placed third.
Meanwhile, three secondary students Alex Macey, Oscar Davis and Ryan Devney, will head to Homebush on Friday for NSW CCC.
Oscar will compete in the 15 years 50-metre freestyle, Alex takes on the 13 years 100-metre breaststroke and Ryan will dive into the 13 years 50-metre breaststroke.
If a first place is won at Homebush, the swimmer will progress to NSW All-Schools swimming.
Teacher Anna Reed said the competition would be a step up from the diocesan swimming carnival held at Moree back in February.
“There will be the best swimmers from different diocesans around the state, so it will be tough and qualifying place is first,” she said.
I think it will be a good experience and a lot of fun to swim at Homebush.
- Ryan Devney, secondary student
Ryan hopes to equal or beat his time of 40.30 seconds for 50-metre breaststroke.
“I don’t train, I hop in the pool every now and then but I don’t have any big expectations,” he said.
However, he said the nerves were kicking in as the day crept closer.
“I think it will be a good experience and a lot of fun to swim at Homebush, hopefully we all do well and have a good time.”
Saint Philomena’s staff and students congratulated the young swimmers for making it to the next level and wished them all the best.
