Steve was passing through town for a ‘Come Together Namoi’ event in Narrabri throughout the weekend.
His known for his 1998 single ‘Big Dreams’ from the album Children of the Western World reaching number one on the US Billboard Gospel Chart.
“I was in Mount Isa at the time so I was really famous over in America but not in Mount Isa,” he told the students.
He showed the students how important it was to listen to the music when playing with another person or in a band by asking everyone to play four simple cords.
“We are going to play A minor, F, C and G. Listen how much it improves when everyone starts tuning in together. Our bass, percussion and drums will start, then our other guitars, then keyboard and finally our violins,” he said.
Steve encouraged students to think about song writing.
“It’s an expression of our hearts and can usually start from a simple cord structure like the one we all did today,” he said.
Steve said his number one aim in life was to simply play music for God.
Moree Christian School students Lusi-Ann, Etasa, Lucy, Eden, Lucas, Caleb, Sam, Rebekah, Toby, Noah, Zach, Shontana, Talitha. Ashley, Zac and Lochy thanked Steve for visiting and teaching them a few tips and tricks.
