The Friendship Day starts the season for lady bowlers in the Namoi District and it has been combined with our Veteran’s Day for the first time, this year. Bowlers travelled from each of the three clubs in the District and Lightning Ridge had seven players to total thirty players for a well-supported day.
Whilst enjoying morning tea, a Super Veteran Badge was presented to Janet Coleman from Narrabri and a Veteran Badge to Lorraine Bartel from Moree by District President, Kay Dewson.
Eight players were then nominated as skips and each skip then drew for leads, seconds and thirds to play eighteen ends of bowls.
All winning teams from the four games played, scored twelve ends. Winners and runners-up were then decided from margins of shots scored.
Winners of the day were Amba Ross (Wee Waa), Betty LeCudennec (Lightning Ridge), Helen Woodward (Narrabri) and Dot Heffernan (Moree) with a score of 22 + 14 and runners-up were Margaret Lloyd (Moree), Debbie Copelin (Wee Waa), Val Falkiner (Narrabri) and Kay Dewson (Wee Waa) on a score of 22 + 10.
After a delicious lunch, the raffle was drawn and won by Janet Coleman and 50 club, both prizes to Beverley Ryan.
The Namoi District took the opportunity of being together for the Friendship/Veteran’s Day to hold a General Meeting at which the District passed a Motion to adopt their new Constitution and By-Laws.
The Namoi District Women’s Bowling Association has also been informed by Fair Trading that its application to become incorporated, has been approved.
