Locals were encouraged to have coffee with some local cops, 15 to be exact, and voice any questions or concerns they may have had.
There were no agendas or speeches, it was a chance for people to meet and establish connections with police in Moree.
Barwon LAC crime manager Detective Inspector David Silversides was one of the many officers who attended the morning.
“We probably had in the vicinity of 20 people attend the day from various sectors of the community, which was well represented,” he said.
A number of conversations were had between community members and local police around general policing issues and crime in the Moree area.
“We spoke around community concerns on certain activities including trail bike riding, safety in the rail and bypass corridor and general public safety,” Det. Insp Silversides said.
The 15 officers, representing most sections of the Barwon command, were able to cover a wide range of questions and inquiries.
The variety of officers included detectives, highway patrol, crime management unit, detectives and PCYC.
“The answers and communication were very positive from all involved; we were very happy with the day.”
Det. Insp Silversides highlighted the willingness of community members to engage with police.
“Of course that is the driving precept of the day to have community contact, strengthen new contacts and reconnect with older ones as well. It was all very positive,” he said.
Barwon LAC hope to host something similar in the future to build on achievements from last Thursday.
“I encourage community members from all sections of the community to engage with police and continue to provide good information around crime and areas of concern.
“That way we can be more effective at tasking our resources and people at the right places, at the right time to foster positive relationships moving forward,” he said.
Resident Ainslie Seccombe took to the Barwon LAC Facebook page to congratulate officers.
“It was a very informative morning and great to be able to meet our local police and hear all the good things happening. Thanks,” she wrote.
Barwon LAC also held coffee with a cop in Narrabri at Cafe One23, with similar outcomes.
