Every month the group holds a meeting at the Cancer Council on Peel street and welcomes up to a dozen men at all different stages of their cancer journey, although spokesperson Ian Austin said that the group needs to find a new president soon or they could be facing dire consequences.
“We are very fragile at the moment,” Mr Austin said.
“Everyone is getting older and we need a new executive to run it.
“We don’t want to let it fail – in the past few weeks we have had two men come in that were suicidal. Talking to the group made them realise that they are not the only ones going through it and they are now still going.”
Mr Turner has previously been the executive, although also serves as the president of the Tamworth Film and Sound Archive and can’t manage both head roles at once. His wife Marion will remain on as secretary of the prostate group.
“We have the secretary and treasurer and everyone else in place but just need someone to put their hand up for the president’s role,” Mr Austin said.
“They don’t even need to be a sufferer or survivor. We just need someone who is compassionate and available to everyone.”
The group also wants to see a specialist prostate nurse return to Tamworth after the role was scrapped in 2015.
