Members of the public are invited to bring their flood photographs and provide personal feedback on the results of the flood mapping study presented by Moree Plains Shire Council and WRM Water+Environment at Council’s committee room, Level 1, 30 Heber Street, Moree at 5.15pm, Tuesday, February 28.
Council’s project and development manager Lila Fisher said the flood modelling uses previous events to create computer models that can predict water heights, determine the flood affected areas of Moree and simulate larger events.
“The flood modelling will improve emergency services response strategies, council’s development and building controls, and will be used in the future by insurance companies when assessing buildings that are impacted by flood events,” she said.
“We want feedback from the public about their experiences as they best understand the flooding in their neighbourhoods and we are also looking for suggestions to mitigate existing flooding problems.”
The presentation, question and answer session will take approximately an hour, and the 2D flood maps are available on council’s website: http://www.mpsc.nsw.gov.au/index.php/community-and-services/whats-going-on-in-the-shire/whats-on/1710-discuss-the-flood-study-results
