Road closures at level crossings across the Hunter Valley rail network will take effect from tomorrow, February 21, as part of a $20 million renewal program by Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC).
The million-dollar maintenance includes upgrading track, ballast, sleepers, structures like bridges, culverts and level crossings between Kooragang, Ulan and Narrabri from February 21-24.
Road closures and delays are expected at level crossings from Muswellbrook to Willow Tree.
Passenger trains will also be affected during this period. NSW TrainLink advised the Sydney to Armidale and Sydney to Moree XPLORER services will be replaced with a road coach service for the entire journey.
ARTC executive general manager for Hunter Valley, Jonathan Vandervoort, said the work is vital for safety.
“Hundreds of passenger trains run on our network every week and the maintenance work we do is critical to keeping these trains running safely and reliably, at no cost to the taxpayer,” Mr Vandervoort said.
