The RAC is made up of community members and state and local government representatives from all over the New England/North West region.
The meeting featured discussion on celebrating Moree’s indigenous culture and heritage and how to better engage the indigenous population.
The RAC was hosted by Moree Plains Shire Council who also shared information about their Community Strategic Planning process.
During their time in Moree, members visited Moree Artesian Aquatic Centre, Moree Water Park, the Mehi Gallery and the Yaama Ganu Centre where they learnt about the rich Indigenous history of the region and saw beautiful items of local Indigenous art.
“Multicultural NSW recognises no two regional communities are the same and genuine engagement comes when you listen to the community first-hand and from the bottom-up,” New England/North West RAC chair Steve Widders said.
“The New England/North West Regional Advisory Council spans a wide geographic area, so the meeting was a great opportunity to visit Moree and to hear about cultural diversity in the region.
“Thanks to Moree Plains Shire Council for hosting us and for displaying a real commitment to inclusion around all elements of diversity.”
