Madelyn Johnson is the 36th recipient from the Moree shire to be awarded the Auscott Education Programme Scholarship, while Morgan Phillis is the third Gwydir Valley winner of the Bruce and Robyn Loder Education Scholarship Programme.
Both scholarships are worth $11,500 per year for the duration of the recipient’s studies and aim to assist students to meet the cost of post-graduate study such as tuition, books, living expenses and other compulsory course fees.
All students who reside in the Moree shire and attend Moree Secondary College were eligible to apply for the Auscott Education Programme Scholarship which was awarded based on realistic ambition, need, the ability to succeed in a chosen course, motivation, academic performance, personal presentation, community involvement and maturity.
Madelyn was thrilled to be chosen as the 2017 recipient, from 12 applicants from Moree Secondary College.
She said the scholarship will be a huge financial assistance as she completes her five-year law and comunications degree at the University of Technology Sydney.
“I’m going to Sydney which is quite expensive, so it’s a massive help,” she said.
After being accepted to study a Bachelor for Biomedical Science at Southern Cross University on the Gold Coast, Morgan was overwhelmed to receive the Bruce and Robyn Loder Education Scholarship.
“I was extremely happy,” she said.
Morgan said this scholarship will greatly help her achieve her dream of studying medicine, which will involve seven years of study.
“It’ll help towards accommodation, textbook fees and other utilities I’ll need,” she said. “It’s be a big weight off my parents’ shoulders.”
The Bruce and Robyn Loder Education Scholarship honours the memory of one of Auscott’s longest-serving employees, Bruce Loder.
“Auscott is extremely proud to be associated with this scholarship to both honour Bruce’s memory and help support Robyn’s ongoing commitment to rural NSW,” Auscott Gwydir Valley general manager Sean Boland said.
Mr Boland said Auscott wishes both Madelyn and Morgan all the best for their future studies and congratulates them both on receiving the two prestigious scholarships.
