Rehannah Haines, Jarrowa Jerome and Jenara French (who has now moved away) donated their collaborative artwork to Moree Can Assist who plan to hang the piece in the Picone ward at Moree Hospital.

The three teenagers had been working on the artwork at the studio behind Moree Plains Gallery for a number of months and now that it is finished, decided to donate it to a worthy cause.

“The project was to build their confidence,” Moree Plains Gallery education coordinator Janelle Boyd said.

“They’re good artists on their own but working on a group project they bounced off each other. They picked the design and worked on it after school a few days a week.”

Ms Boyd came up with the idea to donate the piece to Can Assist.

“For people going through cancer treatment it’s such a nice, pretty, light-hearted thing to look at,” Ms Boyd said.

Moree Can Assist vice president Tricia Graham said the donation is much appreciated.

“We want it to be for everyone who comes in,” she said.

“It’s just to cheer people up. It’s really nice to have beautiful paintings on the wall and there’s nothing bright and cheerful like this.

“The kids have done a really good job.”

A local police officer donated the canvas for the artwork, while a company has offered to take professional photos of the painting and sell the prints, with all money to go back to the kids through the education program at Moree Plains Gallery.
