The Moree Community Library is calling for donations of old photographs to grow their local history collection.
Outreach services officer Kristy Moody said the collection had very rare and valuable items.
“Library assistant Beverley Fenton looks after the local history collection and had the idea of asking for the community to contribute photos specific to Moree’s history.
“We have many researchers, particularly researching family history, who utalise the collection,” she said.
Ms Moody encouraged anyone who may have a piece of history captured in a photo to take it in and show the library staff.
“We don’t have a specific date or theme of the photos, we’re just looking for anything that may assist people using the collection particularly for research.”

Library staff prefer to have the original photographs donated, but were willing to make an exception for meaningful images.
“We can scan them if people don’t wish to part with the originals but they will be looked after here.”
Those donating are asked to fill out a form to cover any copyright issues and to provide as much information as possible with the image.
“Simple things like who, when, where, why and how are little bits of information to add with the photos.”
Start searching through your photo albums and never throw out pictures that may look historic, the Moree library may be its new home.
Because there is no specifics for each photo it may be of significant people at the time, or significant places, buildings, events, roads or accidents.
“We also had a special micro film reader so all of our Moree Champion papers are digital and we can load old photos onto digital platforms,” she said.
For those on the other hand looking to access the local history collection, they’re more than welcome to head on down to the library and inquire.
