DuPont Crop Protection territory manager Angus Wilson said the awards recognised rural businesses around the globe who’ve shown leadership in environmental awareness.
“In 2015 Peter and his team were awarded country champions at the Environmental Respect Awards and this year they’ve gone on to be ambassadors.
“They were invited to Wilmington, Delaware and spent the week with business people from different countries,” he said.
B&W Rural director Peter Birch said he’d always taken a technology focused route with agriculture.
“We’ve got about 13 agronomists at the moment who all utalise agricultural technology and more environmentally benefiting techniques.
“We’re trialing super singles cotton, focusing on better fertaliser utalisation in cotton, spray technology and better advocacy with spray technology and reducing off target drift,” Mr Birch said.
Mr Birch said B&W worked heavily with genetically modified cotton, reducing chemical usage within the industry.
“We also work with drones and satellite technology to help our farmers understanding their crops better to make better decisions,” he said.
At the awards evening Mr Birch and his wife Jenni were able to converse with people from all corners of the world working with different agricultural systems.
“However, it was interesting to hear how many similarities everyone had in the way they run their businesses, treat their staff, treat their customers and their general aims for agriculture and their passion for agriculture.
Coming from a scientific background, Mr Birch has been able to study the advances in agriculture and take a look at the historic failures.
“We just try to look into the future and make sure we don’t get too much more wrong.
“We’ve had some disasters in the past with agricultural history around the world with salination , overuse of water resources, contamination, resistance to herbicide and insecticide.
“We want to make sure we look out to clean water, clear blue skies and good crops.
“We want farmers to make money without it impacting on the environment,” he said.
B&W Rural are proud to say four staff members have 20 years experience with the company, along with their 10 staff with 15 years experience. “We run as a family and we look after our staff. It’s good to know you’re staff have experience.”
