In a stellar line up of talent, the Gallery’s final exhibition for the year, opening November 4, will include jewellery designer Lucinda Newton of LUONE, milliner Penelope Haddrill and Blue Mountains’ artist Jill Wilson.
None are strangers to the region - this is Lucinda’s fifth exhibition at the gallery, Penelope grew up in the district and Jill’s daughter-in-law is a Moree girl.
This will be Jill’s third show at The Moree Gallery, and she was one of three artists chosen to represent the Gallery at Art Sydney 05, Fox Studios.
Jill’s latest body of work is based upon landscapes from recent travels, including three water scenes completed at her house in the Greek Islands. In a visual contrast, the remained of her work was inspired by the Cooper Pedy, Lake Eyre and Rainbow Valley landscapes.
“As always my work is a direct response to the environment, specifically the colours, patterns, texture and the sensual linear shapes of the landscape.”
Penelope Haddrill’s hand-crafted hats are inspired by the practicality of rural living.
“Being creative, I was looking for a good quality hat but one with that extra unique twist,” she said. “One that could be worn practically on a daily basis or dressed up for an event.
For Lucinda, having spent her early years on her parent’s, Doug and Mandy O’Neil’s Bellata property before relocating to Toowoomba, this exhibition is one of her favourites.
Her latest collection comprises of semi-precious pieces in the distinctive contemporary LUONE style, however yellow and rose gold is a major feature.
The exhibition will be held at The Moree Gallery, Heber Street, Moree opening Friday, November 4 at 10am. Penelope Haddrill Hats and LUONE will exhibit Friday and Saturday November 4 and 5 only, with Jill’s exhibition concluding Monday, December 5.
