The meeting is tomorrow, Thursday, September 29 at 10am.
Anyone interested in agriculture and local business is welcome and will hear the learnings from a home grown business success story.
The general meeting will follow the members only annual general meeting at 8am and will include two thought provoking presentations.
The Murray Darling Basin Authority will be providing the latest analysis of socio-economic impacts of water reform in the Gwydir Valley.
Water reform to date has recovered 29 per cent of general security entitlement, 13 per cent of supplementary entitlement and 29 per cent of high security entitlement to provide for environmental outcomes both locally and downstream.
This has had a significant impact on the productive capacity of the region with a reducing in irrigated hectares of 15-25 per cent says the association.
This has a flow on affect to the regional economy.
“This analysis is being used to inform the setting of future usage limits for irrigators
and is key to understanding the value that agriculture has to our regional economy,’’ association executive officer Zara Lowien said..
“Local success story: Andrew Waddell from Stahmann Farms Enterprises will provide
an entertaining story of the businesses evolution from local pecan producer to
becoming Australia’s major nut grocery retailer and now exporting direct to Asia
“He will highlight why local communities are key to business success,” she said.
The meeting wil be at the GVIA office, 100 Balo Street, Moree
