But every cloud has a silver lining.

Organisers now plan to host the event in late November.

“We had no real option,” organiser Chris Thomas from Thomas Lee Motorcycles in Moree said yesterday.

The main concern were a number of water crossing which in usual circumstances were only a few inches deep.

However with the huge downpours across the region some may now be impassable.

“We were also concerned about possible damage to properties,” Chris said.

The trailbike ride which began in 2012 has earned a faithful and fanatical following.

But that’s not surprising says Chris.

He recently drove all the way to Yeppoon in Queensland for a bike ride.

“If you are into bikes you love to ride,” he said.

Events such as the Upper Horton Trailbke Ride are growing in popularity.

A bike ride in North Star has grown from a few hundred to a few thousand in five short years.

“They are great family events,” Chris said.

“A chance to go for a ride and hang out wit your mates and your family.”

The Upper Horton Trailbike Ride began in 2012.

Riders come from “all over”, Chris said.

Organisers expect at least 350 people to attend, even after the postponement.

“It’s a fantastic two days. The Upper Horton provides some of the most spectacular trails the region has to offer.”

He paid tribute to the small village of Upper Horton.

“The community  has always been a great supporter of motorcycle events, for the last 18 years they have held rounds of the NIPES as well as other adventure ride events,” Chris said.

Upper Horton is a small village  located by the Horton River. 

The community of Upper Horton lies high in the Horton River Valley. It is accessed from the Fossickers Way with the turnoff 13km north of Barraba and a journey of 19km to the village.
