“I was over the moon,” he said.
“It's something that I think is one in a million. It's pretty unbelievable.”
“I’ve seen a lot of echidnas, but never a white one, so I was really excited to find him,” Mr Smith told Fairfax Media.
“I’d never even heard of an albino echidna, and I’ve spoken to a few people since I picked him up and they hadn’t either, so they’re obviously rare.”
Mr Smith has since relocated the pure white echidna to a safer spot, and said he blends in well to the surroundings.
“You can hardly see him in all the Coolatai grass here, so he’s protected,” he said.
Nicknamed ‘Dino the Albino’ by his grandson Tommy, Jason moved the creature to a safer location, away from traffic.
He said he’d never even heard of an albino echidna before, and would love to know if any locals spot Dino or another like him.
