Northern Border Senior Access (NBSA) is hosting the Careers and Pathways Planning Event in Moree from August 9 to 11, during which 60 students from the four central schools will get a taste of a variety of different careers and course options.
“We endeavor to provide as many opportunities as possible for their current and future education and career pathways and this event is a major part of the steps we take to ensure our students are catered for,” NBSA office manager Kristen Heal said.
“It will give them the opportunity to get a feel for the industries they’re interested in.”
The event will feature a course taster day on Wednesday, August 10 where students from NBSA will be joined by seniors from Moree Secondary College and Moree Christian College and participate in a number of TAFE workshops.
Special guest will be Young Australian of the Year 2007, Tania Major, who was the youngest person ever elected to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission.
Tania will run workshops with the students on Wednesday.
Students will also be taken on industry visits to businesses in Moree on Tuesday, followed by a netball and football sporting challenge played between NBSA and Moree Secondary College on Thursday.
“Hopefully it’ll be a great three days,” Ms Heal said.
“It will give our students options and say this is what you can do and we can help you do it.
“It’s a chance for them to see what’s out there … by providing these little taster they can see what the course is about and where it can take them.”
