Rodney Brazel, who left school at the age of 14, has been a shearer for 35 years.
He decided to put his hand up for council at the age of 58, and was first elected in 1995. “I felt the poor, the old, the most vulnerable were not having a voice in this local government,” Cr Brazel said.
“After the first term I soon earned the respect of my community, earning the most primary vote in 1999.
“That gave me the strength, and the will to keep having a voice for them.”
Cr Brazel now believes the community is in good hands.
He has the highest respect for Mayor Katrina Humphries, deputy mayor Sue Price and said that Mike Montgomery will make a great councillor if he is elected again.
“I always like seeing new faces on council, new ideas, and good debates on different topics,” Cr Brazel said.
“The reason I am going again is because I can never, ever repay the people back for the faith they had in me, it’s as simple as that.”
