The game captures the stamina, quick reflexes and the speed of polo with the robustness of a rugby match.
This weekend, June 2 and 3, the club will celebrate the milestone with the 25th anniversary Pally Polocrosse Carnival.
“All visitors are most welcome to come and experience the exciting world of polocrosse,” club member Shelley Johnstone said.
The carnival will feature action-packed polocrosse from 8.30am-3pm, with the A grade final, showcasing the best of local and regional polocrosse.
Hearty food will be on offer at the canteen throughout the weekend with a three-course meal served Saturday night to the accompaniment of singer Matt O'Leary.
Pally Polocrosse teams have competed over the years in club, zone and national championships.
They have competed at the Royal Easter Show and the Pan Pacific Masters Games, held on the Gold Coast in 2000, where a team of seven players, aged 40 and over, took out gold in the C grade competition.
“Polocrosse is a sport that allows the whole family to play together within one club, and attracts a bevy of players and members from the rural, regional and urban areas of Australia who love the life and this sport,” Shelley said.
The anniversary carnival is attracting players and spectators from all over New South Wales and throughout Queensland, with a crowd expected varying in age from four to 70, with 15 to 20 teams competing.
“Many local families have been involved with the club over the last 25 years either by playing the sport or providing their continuous support and donations to run the carnival,” Shelley said.
She said the Pally Polocrosse Club is a very family-orientated club, now starting to see the next generation of families come through the ranks.
