This was the third year the Warwick band has made the trip to Moree as part of their tour of the North West, also performing in Goondiwindi, Boomi and Glen Innes.
“It was an excellent performance, everybody enjoyed it,” MPS deputy principal Lindy Hosegood said.
“It was a little different to what we normally see in Moree, having a Celtic flavour, and they certainly showed talent as young students.”
The local students had the chance to perform with the band, with the MPS and Scots choirs performing a clever rendition of Zippity Do Dah and joining with the drummers, pipers and Moree’s highland dancers for the grand finale of Amazing Grace.
“It was fun to listen to and the children certainly enjoyed singing with the older choir and it gave them something to aspire to,” Lindy said. “They were very encouraging.”
The Moree Caledonian Society pipe band are hopeful that the concert will inspire young people to take up the bagpipes or drums.
Moree Public’s Mrs Tesoriera has begun recruiting year three and four students for a small drumming and chanter group.
Community members are also welcome to come along to the pipe band’s Tuesday night practices, from 6.30pm at the MPS hall for adults and children.
“We’ve been very happy to, I sup-pose, spread the Scottish word,” Lindy said.
