Fed up with the amount of household waste and chairs dumped at Four Mile, east of Moree, council says it has spent more than $200,000 on cleaning up waste in the last financial year.
Dubbed "filthy humans" Council's senior compliance office Belinda Olsen has hit out at those littering in in the Moree Local Government Area.
"These filthy humans are degrading the environment and costing ratepayers thousands and thousands of dollars every year - money that could be better spent on our sporting fields, parks and roads," she said.
"Council is serious about catching people dumping rubbish. We are increasing the number of patrols that are undertaken by the Rangers and we are installing surveillance cameras in bushland near known hotspots.
“We will prosecute individuals and businesses to the full extent of the law." Mrs Olsen has urged community members who notice anyone behaving suspiciously in open areas or scrub or suspected them of dumping to use the Snap, Solve, Send App via Apple's App Store or to call call Moree Plains Shire Council's Customer Service Centre on (02) 6757 3222 or call the EPA hotline on 131 555.
Council says those who are caught dumping rubbish can receive a fine ranging from $2000 to $4000 while corporations will receive fines from $4000 to $8000.
